Frequently Asked Questions
-
We use an assent-based, naturalistic approach to ABA therapy, meaning your child is an active participant in the process. We follow their lead, prioritize comfort and trust, and create learning opportunities within real-life, meaningful experiences.
We do not use punishment-based procedures. Instead, we focus on positive reinforcement and play-based learning, making therapy engaging, supportive, and motivating.

A formal autism diagnosis is not required to begin services. We support children and families navigating a range of behavioral, social, and developmental needs.
If an autism evaluation or diagnosis is recommended, we’re happy to collaborate with other professionals and guide you through the process to ensure your child receives the support they need.

In many ABA therapy models, services are primarily delivered by behavior technicians (RBTs), who implement treatment plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). While this approach is widely used, it often means the BCBA is not consistently present during day-to-day therapy.
At Oak & Sage Behavioral, services are delivered directly by a BCBA. This allows for a higher level of clinical quality, consistency, and responsiveness, with real-time decision-making and individualized support.
We intentionally maintain limited caseloads to ensure each child and family receives focused, high-quality care. Our approach prioritizes quality over quantity - emphasizing meaningful progress, strong relationships, and care that is ethical, personalized, and sustainable.

Caregiver involvement is an essential part of meaningful progress in ABA therapy.
If your child is receiving 1:1 direct therapy, you won’t be expected to “do therapy,” but you will be invited to participate, collaborate, and stay connected throughout the process. This may include sharing insights, practicing strategies when appropriate, and maintaining open communication.
We do require at least one caregiver meeting per month. These meetings allow us to review progress, align on goals, and ensure you feel confident implementing strategies in your child’s everyday routines.

Yes. In addition to direct, in-person services, Oak & Sage Behavioral offers parent-led ABA therapy consultation and coaching for families seeking guidance from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
These services are delivered remotely via telehealth and are available to families nationwide. In-person options can also be arranged. We work collaboratively to assess your child’s needs, develop individualized behavior strategies, and support you in implementing them within your daily routines.
Parent-led ABA services are ideal for families seeking flexible, expert guidance without direct 1:1 therapy. While caregivers lead implementation, you receive ongoing clinical support, feedback, and individualized recommendations from a BCBA.
This model differs from our direct therapy services, where care is implemented one-on-one by a BCBA in the home or community.

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct a comprehensive initial assessment to understand your child’s strengths, needs, and goals across developmental and behavioral areas. This process includes direct observation, caregiver input, school collaboration (if applicable) and a review of medical history.
Based on this assessment, the BCBA will develop individualized ABA treatment plan, including the appropriate level of ABA therapy support that is both meaningful and sustainable for your child and family. Recommendations are made collaboratively, with caregiver input guiding the process to ensure alignment with your priorities and daily routines.

I work with both private-pay families and those utilizing the Self-Determination Program (SDP), and can help guide you through the process so accessing services feels clear, supported, and manageable.
Because of this flexible, individualized model, Oak & Sage Behavioral operates as a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. Services are $200 per hour, and we provide a detailed superbill for potential reimbursement. We also partner with a third-party service to help simplify submission and tracking for families.
